Types of Valves Used in Different Devices

automatic recirculation valveBefore you know the types of pumps you have to know what a valve is and its uses. A valve is a device used to regulate the flow of fluid by opening or partially closing the fluid pathway. They are fitted in the passage ways in order to control the way a fluid moves from point a to point b. However, they are used majorly in industries but are also found in many places. Have you ever looked at your home water system? If so, I know you know that your tap one of the types of valves.

However, in this article I am going to focus on types of valves used in pumps. But for centrifugal pumps to attain minimum fluid flow you need to use an automatic recirculation valve. That aside the following are classifications of valves.

  • Pneumatic valves
  • Motor valves
  • Hydraulic valves
  • Manual valves
  • Solenoid valves

But don’t worry I am going to simplify the types of valves. This will enable you to understand them in an easier manner. This will include the types of valves according to:

  • Operating Principle
  • Function
  • Specific types

However, in this article I am going to focus more on the types of valves due to operating principle and function.

Types of Valves According to Operating Principle

  1. Gate Valve

Also known as sluice valve is a valve that operates by lifting a round gateway out of the path of a fluid. This type of valve is mostly used in a path were a fluid requires less constraints. They are mostly applicable in petroleum industries.

  1. Globe Valve

It kind of similar to a ball valve but different due to its spherical shape. Globe valves are used to regulate the flow of petroleum in pipeline systems. They are also known as stop valves in plumbing.

  1. Ball Valve

    Types of Valves

This is a quarter turn operated valve. The closure member is a spherical plug with a through hole. When the valve is open the hole is in sync with the fluid flow and vice versa. The valve is closed by rotating the ball 900 to ensure the fluid doesn’t pass.

Types of Valves According to Function

1.Thermal Expansion Valve

This type of valve is used refrigerators and air conditioning systems to control amount of refrigerant that flows into the evaporator in order to control heat. There are two types of thermal expansion valves.

  • Internally thermal expansion valve
  • Externally thermal expansion valve

2.Pressure Reducing Valve

This type of valve functions as a controlling valve. It reduces the pressure of a fluid flowing to a certain minimum pressure value. It is mostly used to regulate liquids and gases. So, if you have a gas cooker study it you can notice it has a pressure reducing valve. In addition, there are different types of pressure reducing valves.

  • Single stage regulator
  • Double stage regulator

Types of Valves

This type of valve has numerous applications that include:

  • Aircraft
  • Aerospace
  • Air compressors
  • Oxy-fuel welding and cutting
  • Water pressure reduction

Therefore, this type of valve is so important in a number of areas.

Conclusion

The following are types of valves. But there are many types of valves. And you should know that are important in functioning of many devices apart from pumps. Therefore, before purchasing a valve know it uses and were they are used.
